What turns the NVIDIA RTX 40 Series GPUs into cryptocurrencies?

April 27, 2022: Updated with information on the potential energy consumption of the RTX 40 Series and its impact on mining.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series could be a potential for next-generation gaming, but what about its cryptominery performance?

The NVIDIA RTX 30 series remains a relatively obsolete product. Not surprisingly, this has not prevented the attention from being focused on the next generation of GPUs along with Intel Bitcoin Mining ASIC and how it may affect companies like Ethereum Mining.

This is what we know about the RTX 40 series so far.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series Cryptocurrency Reproduction

NVIDIA has not yet announced the full specifications of any next GPU in the RTX 40 series or even acknowledged its existence. This means that it is impossible to calculate cryptocurrency output or hash rate for the RTX 40 series.

In fact, dada is the range of products within a single RTX series, it is likely that the RTX 3090, with its hash rate of 114 MH / s, will surpass several next generation cards.

According to Twitter filter @TtLexington (via TechAdvisor), the RTX 40 series will receive the same increase in performance over its predecessor as the RTX 30 series received over the 20 series.

If it is possible that this is not directly translated into cryptominery performance, it allows us to estimate a potential hash value.

If we consider that the RTX 2080 has a hash rate of 40 MH / s and the hash rate for the RTX 3080 is 100 MH / s, this marks an increase of 60 MH / s, or 150%. Not surprisingly, the RTX 2070 has a hash rate of 40 MH / s compared to 62 MH / s in the RTX 3070. This is an increase of 22 MH / s, or just over 50%.

Given the discrepancies between the cards, there will not be a uniform trend in hash rate changes for the RTX 40 series. According to previous figures, we could expect an RTX 4080 to have a hash rate of around 150 MH / s. RTX 4070 hash cup could go around 80 MH / s.

Not surprisingly, rumors from YouTuber Moore is Dead say that the Series 40 could have an energy consumption of up to 600W. By comparison, this is much higher than the 350 W that the RTX 3080 requires. If these energy consumption levels were accurate, the mine’s profitability could be minimized.

Without restrictions, there is another factor to consider.

Will the RTX 40 series have LHR cryptomineria limits?

NVIDIA would prefer that its GPU be used for gaming instead of cryptocurrency. This prompted the company to implement hash speed limits on all new RTX 3070, 3080 and 3060 Ti GPUs earlier this year. These GPUs now come with Lite Hash Rate (LHR) identifier.

According to Hashrate.no, RTX 3080 LHR and RTX 3070 LHR have hash speeds of 70 MH / s and 46 MH / s, respectively. This marks a 26-30% reduction for LHR models.

We do not know if NVIDIA will implement LHR restrictions in the RTX 40 series. NVIDIA may choose to dissuade miners from purchasing these cards with LHR because of this issue.

Current rumors suggest that the RTX 40 series may be launched by the end of 2022. Without a doubt, Ethereum’s mining can be a thing of the past.

The launch date for Ethereum 2.0 will be the replacement of the work test with the participation test. This will eliminate the need for minerals in the Ethereum network and the Ethereum effort will be converted to the validation method. If it is expected to be launched in mid-2022, the ongoing setbacks suggest that this launch will take place in a later period, including some time after the launch of the RTX 40 series.
