Despite being launched in 2013, BioShock Infinite returned to the news last week due to a series of mysterious updates to the PC version of the game. The third installation in the series changed the scene from the submarine city of Rapture to the city of Columbia’s sky. Objective What do all these BioShock Infinite updates really mean?? This is what we know until now.
Everything you need to know about the latest BioShock Infinite updates
There were only 13 updates in March 2022, but the BioShock Infinite update series began in September last year when TheGamer opted out. Initially, it started with seven updates in 2021, before reaching 10 updates this year, before reaching its new record of 13 this month.
With a quick look at BioShock Infinite’s SteamDB update history page, it’s not clear what these updates change. Loading the game after these updates has, in our own experience, not changed anything in the game. Or at least, nothing has changed immediately noticeably.
So what is it like to make all these updates?
Steam platform compatibility
One of the most popular theories right now is that 2K Games makes BioShock Infinite compatible with Steam Deck, Valve’s new laptop system.
Given that the game was not officially compatible with the system at the time of launch, and as we know, Valve is pushing to add more and more titles to the growing compatibility list, it seems like a great option. Especially considering the significant increase in the number of updates since Steam Deck was launched earlier this month.
Do you have a BioShock Infinite Remaster?
Some players on Reddit think it could be an indication that BioShock Infinite is undergoing a remaster, as we know that a new BioShock is currently under development in 2K Studio, Cloud Chamber.
The BioShock trilogy received a remaster of the PS4 and Xbox One in 2016, increasing the resolution of games to 1080p for BioShock: The Collection. Without hesitation, given that we are now in the 4K era of consoles, and with the next entry in the series (with success) in the near future, it is possible that 2K Games seems to mark the beginning of a new generation of fans of the series. before its launch using a collection remastered in 4K.
Unfortunately, this seems a bit likely, considering that just as many BioShock as BioShock 2 on Steam have not received the same amount of updates as Infinite in recent months. I have some, but they all seem relatively small.
2K launcher compatibility
The most ridiculous reason, and unfortunately the most likely of all these updates, is that 2K Games is preparing its library of titles to be compatible with the upcoming 2K Launcher, which is rumored.
Reddit fans were happy to note in the past that BioShock Infinite updates had something to do with the integration of 2K Launcher into the game, so it’s most likely that these newer updates will only be a continuation of that.
At the time of writing this article, 2K Games has not commented on the updates, so for now, the exact reason behind them is a mystery. We will cover our bet on the 2K Launcher, though we are secretly awaiting a new appropriate version of the entire trilogy.
