Tencent continues to expand its influence through all major industries
The acquisition leads Tencent to Funcom’s main shareholder. The operation was completed with the acquisition of all shares belonging to the Norwegian company KGJ Capital AS, which is today the main shareholder in Funcom.
For more than a decade, Funcom has successfully launched several multiplayer titles, including Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, The Secret World and most recently Conan Exiles. So far, 2017 as 2018 was the most lucrative years in Funcom’s history.
Funcom recently announced that the company has acquired the exclusive rights to develop and publish games for PCs and consoles based on DUNE’s IP for the next six years. The company is already working on a sandbox game in the open world of the DUNE universe and is working closely with Legendary Entertainment, which is launching a new DUNE binoculars in December 2020 directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Tencent ranks first in terms of online gaming sign-ups globally and is an agent for many of the major gaming companies such as Riot Games, Epic, Supercell, Ubisoft, Paradox, Frontier and Miniclip.
