Reggie Fils-Aime is a ‘believer’ in Blockchain games

Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has commented on his interest in blockchain and ‘play to pose’ games, claiming he is a “believer” in technology.

Fils-Aimé, who spoke at the SXSW event in Texas (through Nintendo Life), is the last game leader to advocate that NFT games be played to win, despite some players’ opposition to it.

This is what it says.

During the panel, he asked Sons-Aimé what he saw about the role of winning games, blockchain and cryptocurrencies in the games. He said:

I’m a blockchain believer. I think it’s a really attractive technology. I also believe in the concept of ‘play to pose’ in video games.

Fils-Aimé went on to use Animal Crossing: New Horizons as an example of how traditional games could use the blockchain.

“I bet there would be some buyers here today if I were to sell my Animal Crossing Island the latest version of the Nintendo Switch,” he said. “I want to be able to make money from it.

“Blockchain technology integrated into the code would allow me to do that.”

Comparing this to the existing NFT games, an Animal Crossing game to play to win can see players buy land in a metaverso before working on this and then claiming it to make a potential profit. Alternatively, individual furniture or aldeanos can be sold as NFT.

Sites like Nookazon allow the exchange of Animal Crossing articles between players. Without restrictions, these use the game’s Bells currency and explicitly promote the use of “real money exchanges” in their market.

Nintendo has previously talked about its interest in projects related to metaverso. In a session of questions and answers after its financial results, the company said it believed the deal had “great potential.”

Play to pose, not play to win

Without hesitation, Fils-Aimé also said that the implementation of blockchains in games should make players think, instead of looking at it as a source of revenue.

“It can not just be a developer budget that is interesting, or a way for them as a development unit to make money,” he added. “Ultimately, it should be good for the player, but I see an opportunity.”

In fact, this is reflected in the words that My Son used. Instead of claiming that it is necessary to play to win, the term is commonly used in space, instead of referring to “play to pose”. This stark difference seems to leave revenue generation as the key aspect of these games that need to be converted into one of the many vital ingredients.
