PlatinumGames positions itself against NFTs

Platinum Games is the latest study to distance itself from NFT, claiming that this technology does not “in any way offer a positive impact for creators or users”.

Platinum CEO Atsushi Inaba and VP Hideki Kamiya talked about NFTs and blockchain technology in an interview with in-depth chat with VGCwhere we know that, although there is a growing interest among publishers, the responsible study of titles such as Bayonetta, Vanquish or Nier Automata “didn’t really think about it”.

Inaba, for example, explained that “I understand it’s a hot topic right now and it’s really gaining momentum, but I think the way it’s done is centered around profitability for the company, but with no positive impact for creators or users in any way. It’s frustrating to see that “.

“People who try to promote NFTs and partner with video game companies, their conversations seem extremely one-sided,” he continues. “‘Hey, you’re going to make money!’. But, what benefit does this have for the user or the creator? If I have to spend my time on something, I want to profit from the creation of good games.”

Kamiya agrees, adding that he has “no interest” in NFTs. “In my heart, I consider myself more of a user than a businessman,” he explains. “It has no benefit for users at the moment. In the future, if it develops in such a way that it has a positive side for users, then you will find it interesting what to do with it. But I’m not seeing that right now.”

When asked if he wanted to see Konami quickly get into the NFT car, Kamiya replied with a sigh that “really no. If it rains money, Konami is going to be here in a sanitarium.”

Leading the majority of users, the video game industry continues to see how NFTs are incorporated into their products. Some companies, like Konami or Ubisoft, strongly betray them, but have their users against them. Others, such as Electronic Arts, Sega, Team17 or GSC Game World, backed down after seeing the negative public reaction to the announced planes.
