Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Didn’t Meet Square Enix’s Expectations

Square Enix has confirmed that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t performing as well as originally expected.

In the presentation of third quarter financial resultsthe director of the Japanese company, Yosuke Matsuda, explained that “despite the good review, the game’s sales at launch did not meet our initial expectations”.

Without hesitation, Matsuda also added that “the sales initiatives that we started to carry out in November 2021 and which will be alarmed until the new year have caused sales growth, and we hope to continue working to develop sales and compensate for the delay . title “.

Although not specified, this poor start probably depends on two factors. The first is the bad reputation of Marvel’s Avengers, a title far inferior to Guardians of the Galaxy that left a bad taste with fans and gamers. The second is a problem inherited from the previous game: that the license allows them to use characters, very well known after their presence in the MCU, but not the appearance of actors like Chris Pratt or Zoe Saldana.

Also, it should be noted that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was released in October 2021, a collection of important releases such as Far Cry 6, Metroid Dread or Back 4 Blood, among others.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch, in a cloud version. In his review, he is told that “although it doesn’t end well in its finale, Guardians of the Galaxy is, more or less, the game Marvel’s Avengers should have been.”
