Gran Turismo 7 will add a new advanced AI system after launch

Polyphony Digital has announced that Gran Turismo 7 will include a new advanced artificial intelligence system.

Although not ready for the launch of the long-awaited driving game, Gran Turismo Sophy is the product of the creation of Sony IA, a new division of the Japanese company, founded in 2020, which will help Sony to position itself as a “creative entertainment company for AI,” according to CEO Kenichiro Yoshida.

Sophy developed in conjunction with Polyphony Digital and the cloud gaming team at Sony Interactive Entertainment. It’s neural network and distributed learning implemented in Sony’s cloud infrastructure, with learning that has three keys: staying on course, driving without losing control, and advancing opponents while learning the right behavior for her.

Sony’s training was done using Gran Turismo Sport, running in races with some of the best players. In a demo, it was trained as the AI not only raced against some of the best Gran Turismo Sport drivers, who also positioned themselves smartly and were comfortable following the tag in a race three-lap sprint.

Gran Turismo General Manager Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that Sophy will be able to train pilots as soon as they learn, stating that they want Gran Turismo 7 to be as much a companion as a competitor.

But this, as we said, we will see later, since it will not be available at launch and the update on which it will be implemented does not have a date at all.

Gran Turismo 7 will be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on March 4.
