Illfonic, the studio responsible for Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds, has just announced a new Los Cazafantasmas video game.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will be a 4v1 asymmetrical multiplayer title, in which you will have a team of four ghost hunters and another player who will be immersed in the skin of the ghost while they hunt.
Players fascinated by ghosts will be able to use the typical gadgets from the movies, such as the PKE counter to search for ghosts, the phonograph collector to weaken them and the tramp to catch them. In the mythical barracks located in an old fire station, you can additionally improve equipment and weapons or customize the proton engine with mods. And to finally wow moviegoers, in Spirits Unleashed, Winston Zeddemore will return to deliver missions and Ray Stanz will provide insight with spectral guides, played by Ernie Hudson and Aykroyd respectively, narrating their original papers.
The ghost, on the other hand, can drop objects, teleport using space-time grids, attack NPCs, or summon evasions in an attempt to escape. And laugh at cazafantasmas, of course.
Since the main attraction will be in the multiplayer, the developers have also introduced a mode for playing alone, in which the rest of the characters will be controlled by the AI.
Illfonic CEO Charles Brungardt said, “Ghostbusters is one of the most beloved franchises in the world because we’ve tried to make it a very special title that’s accessible to all of its fans. If you’re someone who love movies and asymmetry multiplayer video games, this title is true for you”.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will compete with versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, plus Illfonic has confirmed there will be cross-play on all platforms. The launch, meanwhile, is scheduled for the last quarter of 2022, on a concrete date yet to be announced.
