EA Sports has retired FIFA 22 football player Mason Greenwood after serious abuse allegations emerged over the weekend.
The Manchester United striker has been eliminated in offline mode and from the English club’s roster, according to the Manchester Evening Newsthough his map is still in Ultimate Team mode.
Greenwood was arrested on June 30 after posting on social media “images and videos posted by a woman, reporting incidents of physical violence”, according to Manchester police. “Greenwood is currently in custody.”
In a statement, Manchester United said they ‘do not tolerate any form of violence’, confirming Greenwood has been sidelined and will not assist training or games until further notice , depending on the results of the investigations.
This is not the first time that Electronic Arts has taken the step of eliminating a sportsman from its star game. A similar situation arose last year when Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was charged with multiple women for rape and assault.
