Call of Duty loses 50 million players in just one year

In the online gaming world, the number of players is king.

In general, the more players have their games in their ecosystem, the healthier it will be in terms of income as coverage, because the figures in a recent report to Activision investors may be a cause for concern.

According to the report, the number of players in Call of Duty titles has dropped dramatically over the past year, from 150 million players in 2021 to around 100 million now, the most pronounced spread the series has seen since the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone in 2020.

Call of Duty loses 50 million players in one year

Most of the blame for this fall, at least from the investor report’s point of view, is the lower premium sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard and a concomitant increase in trading with Warzone.

Of these two, the free Warzone is possibly the most misleading, since the purpose of not charging players an entry fee for a game is to guarantee a large number of players in it.

On the other hand, the game is already several years old, so the disqualification of players is not necessarily a problem as big as it might seem in principle, but a natural consequence of the game’s useful life.

This may be a major concern for an editor without the financial power of Activision Blizzard, especially after its acquisition by Microsoft in January, but it is still unknown what to fix in the future.

Quiz. A number of interesting updates to Warzone are all that is needed to rejuvenate the game’s player ranks and keep it running until the new Warzone game is launched and confirmed developed by Infinity Ward.

Apparently, a sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from 2019 is also being developed and could provide the necessary relief.

In addition, the numbers for Call of Duty Mobile, according to the report, have remained stable, which at least adds a positive angle to a shady read.
