Amazon is canceling its MMORPG based on Lord of the Rings

Amazon cancel su MMORPG by El Señor de los Anillos (Lord of the Rings) which was announced in 2019. As we can read in Bloomberg, the game was under development Amazon Games Studios with the Chinese company Leyou Technologies Holdings Ltd, which was acquired by Tencent Holdings Ltd. in December 2020.

We will not fit an MMORPG from Lord of the Rings

It seems that the reason for the cancellation is a dispute between Amazon and Tencent, which has finally provoked that the development of MMORPG does not go further. This was commented on by people familiar with the trial, who said they would not be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the subject.

An Amazon portal confirmed that following the acquisition of Leyou by Tencent, “we have not been able to secure the terms to proceed with this title at this time.”

The Amazon team working on the game will be transferred to other projects. “We love the IP of Lord of the Rings and we are concerned that we will not be able to bring this game to customers,” the Seattle-based company portal said in a statement.

The cancellation follows a series of bad news for Amazon Game Studios, which has not been able to launch a single successful video game since its launch in 2014. The company has canceled the previously announced games Breakaway and Crucible.

Another of his games, New World, has been delayed on repeated occasions, and personally, given Alpha’s current state, the future is not promising at all.
